Award Winning York Guest House

"Simply excellent! An excellent base whilst spending a day or two in York. David and Carolyn are fantastic hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. Rooms are comfortable, clean and well equipped. I doubt you will get a better breakfast anywhere in York; it certainly sets you up until a late lunch, usually taken in one of the many eateries in the city. Crook Lodge is always our first choice when visiting this gorgeous city. Thanks."

Crook Lodge Guest House, York

Carolyn and David Lightwing would like to welcome you to Crook Lodge. We are situated in a quiet location with our own private car park and very close to the city centre, railway station and to all the York attractions. All our rooms are ensuite and we have free wifi available to make your stay in York as comfortable as possible. We are ideally located for a relaxing visit to York or as a base to explore the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.

We have just completed the first phase of renovation with new electrical, plumbing and fire alarm systems along with reinstatement of traditional sliding sash windows to rooms 1,2 & 6.  We also took on the technical challenge of our uneven floors with the help of Tom, one of our sons, installing new oak flooring in the entrance with fewer undulations

As part of this work we have also introduced our first “themed“ room,  as part of our plan to portray the life and families of  previous occupiers of our house match our guest bedrooms to previous inhabitants of our home who played important roles in the history of the city of York. Room 1 has been refurbished with a railway theme to commemorate John Bradford Harper, stationmaster of York station and a major contributor to the York railway museum  who lived here between 1888 and 1893.  We have addd pictures of Room 1 to illustrate the changes. David is particularly proud of the LNER 19th Century  Railway Map reproduced in the shower room. Future room themes will follow other  occupiers from the 19th century including the owner and editor of the Yorkshire Herald newspaper, the grandson of  Joseph Rowntree, confectioner, a wine merchant and a solicitor.
